McCarthy didn't just fail to get a majority of votes as the victorious party's presumptive nominee for the first time in a century three times in a row, he didn't even get the most votes. He wasn't even the leading candidate! The leading candidate for the House Speakership on all three ballots was Democratic nominee Hakeem Jeffries who, in contrast to McCarthy, got every vote from the Representatives of his party. McCarthy, by contrast, actually lost a vote by the last ballot that he'd had on the first one. He's actually getting farther away from winning over time so far.
It just goes to show what I think we here all know by now once more: that today's Republicans are demonstrably incapable of even governing Twitter, let alone the country. This is a truly, truly sad and embarrassing start to their leadership of the House of Representatives and if it keeps going this way, they won't even hold the chamber for a second term.
