Not as good as the old stuff, but there's some top quality songs there on pretty much every album (except St Anger, but even some of that ain't half bad). Bleeding Me is easily one of the best songs they've ever done. The Outlaw Torn as well. A lot of great material. The biggest issue is the albums are too long, and some of the songs need trimming down (which is an issue they had dating back to Ride the Lightning). If they cut say 3-4 songs from each Load album and Hardwired, and 1-2 from St Anger and Death Magnetic (along with trimming the fat from certain songs on the last 3), they'd fare better I think. |
Same here, I think I could probably find at least 1 track I like on every single Metallica album. Load has Until It Sleeps. Reload has The Unforgiven II. I'm not sure off the top of my head if I ever heard any St. Anger songs, because I'm not recognizing any by name while looking at the track listing right now, but the album gets little radio play so that doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't like any of them if I heard them. Death Magnetic has The Day That Never Comes and The Unforgiven III. Much like St. Anger, I don't think I have heard any of the songs from Hardwired to Self Destruct, unfortunately the recent rock station in my area got replatformed into a Classic Hits station in 2015, and the other 2 rock stations in my area are both Classic Rock stations that play nothing newer than the 90's, so I unfortunately haven't heard very much rock music released in the last 7 years.
Edit: Skimmed through St. Anger and Hardwired on youtube just now. Hardwired sounds good to me. Not really a fan of St. Anger though, seems like it was a heavily experimental album for them and it just didn't work, but they went back to their roots with both Death Magnetic and Hardwired, and both are perfectly fine imo.
