Was to be expected, really. After all, all that NVidia said was that the 4080 12GB had a naming problem, but never said it had a pricing problem.

Yeah, and that's after 5 Generations of 10nm FinFet Intel 7 (Cannon Lake, Ice Lake, Tiger Lake, Alder Lake and Raptor Lake), so the next one is already years behind.
Meteor Lake will probably be mobile only, like Ice Lake and Tiger Lake before. Those chips are smaller, as such it will not hurt so much if the yield rate ain't there yet for the big desktop chip.
All Intel can hope is that AMD needs 2 years for Zen 5, if it comes out next year already they'll get slaughtered. By then DDR5 prices should be close to DDR4 prices and cheaper boards should also be out by then, so the platform price advantage would be mostly gone, too.
