They always have viewed Nintendo that way, Sony has never taken Nintendo seriously as a competitor, apparently even now after Switch kicked PS4's ass in less time on the market. Remember when former Sony Computer Entertainment of America President Jack Tretton called the Wii a kids "Lollipop" and the DS a "babysitting tool" compared to Sony's PS3 and PSP? They seem to be totally divorced from reality, unbelieving that Nintendo consoles can outsell them with poor specs and lower 3rd party support, even as Switch has already done so.
