Sony claims Call of Duty is in development for 3-5 years and has a budget of over $300m.

Sony also claims that Game Pass has reached 29 million subscribers, although, I don't know how they could possibly know that number so take it with a grain of salt.

First off, we already know CoD is moving to an every other year release cycle moving forward, so most of this Sony argument here about CoD being unique due to it's yearly release schedule is irrelevant now. Secondly, it could only ever have been 3 years of full development because they have 3 main CoD studios and had a yearly release cycle, if there ever was an extra 2 years on any of the CoD games, it would have been pre-production with a much smaller team.

As for the Gamepass number, only way they could possibly know is if a. they are admitting to corporate espionage, b. Xbox told Sony the numbers while trying to convince them to allow Gamepass onto Playstation (hopefully not the case as that would be a boneheaded move by Xbox), or c. Xbox gave the most recent numbers to a 3rd party developer during Gamepass deal negotiations and then said 3rd party developer gave the number to Sony. If the number is true, it would mean that Gamepass has managed to gain 4m subs since January 2022, on a year with zero AAA exclusives for Xbox, and only a small handful of significant 3rd party day one Gamepass deals, which would be impressive for sure, I figured Xbox had gained at most half that many on 2022 since they put in so little effort.

Also worth noting that Sony could close the gap between PS+ mid tier and Gamepass in a hurry, all it takes is copying Xbox by releasing their 1st and 2nd party exclusives day one on PS+. With Playstation being the larger brand worldwide with the larger install base, they will catch up to Gamepass within a year or two if they do that.
