Yes though I think at that point he was doing it more to save face at the company because the embarassment of having his project canned while Uemera's R&D was going full ahead with the Super NES/Super Famicom probably would have drove him crazy. 

So he hated the concept of the Game Boy, but didn't want to see it canned either, lol.
