I don't see Xbox ever being competitive to Nintendo or PlayStation in Japan. But a small following of maybe 2 to 3 million consoles sold per generation could be possible in the future. 

It has taken some time but Switch will overtake the Wii in the Europe soon. Japan is the main reason the Switch has outsold the Wii worldwide.
