The reason for this is beyond the benchmarks. He acknowledges that for content creators, the 4090 is a no-brainer. But for gamers, things are getting more tricky. This is because of things like NVidia still using DP 1.4a, which caps the framerate to the screen at 120 in 4K - something the GPU can easily exceed in several games. Also still being on PCIe 4.0, so if you need to split the GPU lanes for things like NVME storage or other extension cards (again, something that makes sense especially for content creators), there will certainly be a big performance loss that wouldn't be there with PCIe 5.0.
