I’m guessing Q1 2024 for the launch. By that point Ampere will be old, and therefore cheap.

Because of inflation, I think the launch price will be around $500. I believe it will be fully backward compatible with the original switch, and I believe it will use Nvidia specific features to boot performance/upscale the image of Switch 1 games.

Highly unlikely for a few reasons:

1. The rumored specs of Switch 2 aren't that much higher than the Steam Deck, which costs $400 on the base model. Switch 2 will be releasing about 2 years after Steam Deck, so costs for a handheld with that level of specs should be down a good bit I'd imagine.

2. The last time Nintendo released an overpriced system on launch, with 3DS back in 2012, they were forced to price drop it by 32% just 6 months after launch. I doubt Nintendo wants to repeat that mistake.

We haven’t seen inflation this high in 40 years, and if the RTX 4000 launch is anything to go by I think everyone is going to be shocked at what the new “normal” is going to be.

$500 will be cheap in 2024. I would be extremely surprised if the next switch is any lower than that
