Honestly, this direct for me wasn't really exciting. However, I could see why other people would give it like an 8/10 or 9/10 if you're really into RPGs.

But for me personally, the games shown aren't really games from franchises I care about, I couldn't care less about Fire Emblem or Octopath Traveller 2. Pikmin 4 is cool but im not a huge Pikmin guy either, im more so happy for Pikmin fans who were desperate for something new with the franchise especially since Pikmin 4 was announced back in 2015. I dont care for Kirby deluxe.

I am excited for Zelda TOTK, but honestly I already sort of know what to expect from a sequel to BOTW so I dont really get super hyped even when gameplay is shown, the sky islands look cool but I already know what to expect from the game so it wasn't really super hype for me.

And tbh the farming RPGs did get overshown to high hell in this direct, I get that the Switch is the go to console for games like that since many Animal Crossing like gamers are on it but my God they showed a bit too much.

If you're an RPG guy, im sure this direct was pure heaven for you. However, for me it just didn't appeal to me much. I'm more into Nintendo for franchises like 3D & 2D Mario, Metroid, Zelda, F Zero, Mario Kart, DK, Mario Spinoffs. I wish there was a more new stuff from those franchises especially from 3D & 2D Mario since its now been around 5 years since Mario Odyssey & 10 Years since the last original 2D Mario.

I'll rate this direct around a 6/10 for me, objectively speaking though probably around a 7.

I agree with the sentiment of this but not the lower rating :) Most of the games don't interest me personally, although some I personally think look very cool but aren't the kind of game I bother to buy, and some of the ones that did (Mario + Rabbids, Zelda) we already knew were coming so the videos or new information released didn't excite me at all. GoldenEye was a huge reveal though, Octopath 2 was also a big surprise and looks awesome, and Pikmin 4 was a surprise and big for fans of the series, I might get the game but I think I was honestly more excited just because its a game people have been waiting for for so long. I've never owned a Kirby game but the remaster of that one does look cool.

But I judge the Direct not by my personal interests or the exact number of games I'll buy, but by the general quality and quantity of stuff shown and announced. And there was heaps of that! Yes too many farming games and tons of RPGs which used to be my favorite genre but I simply don't play games enough to buy long RPGs much anymore.

I rated it 7.5 in my opening post, but said the only reason it was that low was because the rumored reveal of Metroid Prime remake and WW/TP wasn't there, and those were the two things I most wanted to get a release date for. I can appreciate that for the Switch library this Direct showed off tons of solid new games that will appeal to lots of different people, so overall I think it was a great Direct, with just the personal letdown of not announcing the two most rumored things I was most excited about.

I expect at some point next year we'll get Directs revealing 2D Mario, Metroid Prime (remake for 1, maybe remasters for 2/3, and showing off 4), and DK, and maybe even one or two other big IP games for release in 2023/24. Those will personally be more exciting for me, but the sheer number of quality games in this Direct was fantastic for Switch owners in general.
