I'm from Portugal, things are also tough there, but gaming will always be affordable, no one needs to buy the next gen consoles or even current games, people could buy a wii and a ps4 and have more than plenty great games are very cheap prices, especially if you wait for sales. I have ps4 games that cost me like 5 euros or less. In my case I can easily afford games, doesn't mean I will pay 80-90 euros per game, that's just not very smart money management. No one needs to play the games right now, there's always older cheaper games that people haven't played, there is no way of playing all games ever released especially as games have become much bigger in length and content. Also we don't need many games at all, a game like assassins creed will last me a month to finish, and the last ones cost from 5-20euros only. And even after I finish such game I'll take a break and focus on movies and series.
In fact gaming is way more affordable and much better value than going out to party, you might spend way more just to go out to dinner and it lasts you like a couple hours of fun.
