He seemed a lot sadder when he got asked that question than when he talked about the latest victims of a mass shooting.

Ted Cruz is one of the most contemptible individuals in American government. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about him. The man even showed himself to be a complete cuckold when he refused to defend his family against Trump, and again when he blamed his kids for running away to Cancun during the Texas blackout.
