If you have a good PC, I'd recommend playing Ori there instead. Blind Forest runs well on the Switch but Will of the Wisps is definitely best enjoyed on PC, it's still a remarkable port for what it is but best enjoyed elsewhere if possible. If the Switch were the only place to play it, you should still go for it of course, I played it first on Switch and loved it anyway.

As for the Switch's successor, I used to think it'd come out in late 2024, but it's starting to look like it may be further away. Either way I'd be very surprised if it didn't have backwards compatibility, Nintendo always had backwards compatibility on successors to their most successful consoles, it only makes sense really. They have this massive userbase, they don't want to turn them away.

As for what the Switch has to offer right now. BotW is an incredible game. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't love it, whether they're Zelda fans, non-Zelda fans, or non-gamers entirely. That aside, some of the best exclusives in my opinion are Astral Chain and Metroid Dread. Astral Chain is maybe a bit more niche but is a sick action game with a lot of depth, whereas Dread, well if you're into metroidvanias that's all that needs to be said. Metroid created the genre long before Castlevania adopted it.

That said, if you can find a way to play some earlier Metroid games before Dread, I'd recommend doing that instead. Dread being the 5th game in the mainline series means it's got loads of lore going behind it, you can definitely understand the story without the previous games but it won't be nearly as impactful. I'd recommend at least going through Super Metroid (available on the Switch's SNES app) and Metroid Fusion (reportedly coming soon?). Those are respectively the 3rd and 4th games in the series, and they're pretty good at establishing what's going on before going into Dread. They're all fantastic games too and not too long.

No PC, my laptop is crap haha but appreciate the info regardless.

The stuff about Metroid is interesting too. I'm really into the Metroidvania style but have only played Castlevania games. I'll consider Super Metroid now, thanks.
