Ultimately they'd lose taking Ukraine but that didn't look like it would happen anyway but with this they gain a much higher chance of managing to hold the Donbas region at least and gain something from this war. |
That will also enable Ukraine and the foreign legion to focus on defending just one area rather than a huge amount of areas, and it will give Ukraine more breathing room to resupply a proper front line routinely rather than doing so with a scattered ear like it is now. If the war continues, that is. Russia seems to be sounding more and more like they want it over.
