In your case, probably.

But there's other cases where say someone's on a family plan where all 8 people play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and instead of paying $200 for just the Booster Course Pass for all 8 people, everyone gets access to it for $80. Which would make sense from a financial standpoint.

I don't really have anyone living with me that plays Mario Kart 8 DX, and even though I have my late cousin's kids come over every so often for family stuff I don't know if they really play it either, so how about I just got the DLC for myself and do local multiplayer?

That definitely works! Because the question really is how much do you value access to the other stuff like the N64 and Genesis games?

If the answer is not much or they mean nothing to you, then buying the MK8D DLC pass outright is the way to go.

Like I mentioned before, the Expansion Pack is just as the name implies. An expansion to NSO. So throwing in paid DLC's and such is just a way to add value to it get you subscribed and keep you subscribed.
