This deal make perfect sense since Destiny can stay multiplatform but join whatever PlayStation Spartacus subscription service. Just like Call of Duty can stay multiplatform but will be on Xbox Game Pass. It will be interesting to see if this a closed deal like Minecraft where that franchise had to stay multiplatform.

It's pretty obvious that Sony is also going to be making their own FPS IPs or bring back old IP like Killzone.

Their games will be multiplatform going forward, as long as Bungie wants them to be. It's very Pro consumer that Sony would be ok making this sort of deal: they aren't gating out existing fans of Bungie.

I agree that Spartacus will be leveraged, perhaps even exclusive content.

That said, Sony going back to FPS has been known for a while now. This definitively continues to solidify that move.

Sony doesn't make these pro consumer deal (Insoniac, Bluepoint, Housemarque) like this; it really show how much power Bungie had in the negotiation to remain multiplatform. Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard at a 12% premium (worth 61.55 Billion on January 2022 bought for 68.7 Billion). While, Sony just bought Bungie for 90% premium (Worth 2 Billion on January 2022 and bought for 3.8 Billion).

This shows that Sony did not buy just Destiny, there a major component in this deal that will benefit all the other studios that was missing from Sony worth a 90% premium.

I think Sony realize that the future of gaming is moving away from consoles as streaming services and subscription services start taking over. Sony producing exclusive content is the future and this deal is really going to pay out for them in the future.  Destiny franchise is now a money makers for Sony and whatever other IP comes out of this acquisition for decades to come.
