You both heavily underestimate how much Xbox rake in via Xbox Live and GP subs over the years. MS wouldn't allow so much money to be spent if Xbox wasn't profiting.

The Halo franchise alone has generated over $5b to date.

Sure Xbox made 80B in profits but we never heard of them, sure.

Nintendo and Playstation in their best years probably make 3B USD on profit. But you want us to believe Xbox was making enough profit that they covered those purchases themselves? You jest right?
