I’m always hesitant to quibble about each company’s motivations for getting into the industry, because ultimately these are all market based capitalist enterprises that from the very beginning had multi national profit making ambitions. One having more “pure” intentions than the other just seems after the fact rationalizations from fans.
Ultimately I am glad Xbox entered the arena. They were batter able to withstand hardship than Sega, and their experience in the PC space brought a unique set of hardware and software that previously either wasn’t there or was under developed.
