#16 - Super Mario Galaxy - Nintendo Wii / Switch
I would still probably argue that toe to toe, Galaxy 2 excels even more at level design than the original, and between pieces of music that were clearly based off the first game score, 2 is generally on top, but the first Galaxy has a spark to it, an edge that makes it a more special experience.
There is something about the more evocative tracks from Galaxy 1 mixed in between the more energetic scores, the contrast of the galaxies with a more subdued palette to them, the story of Rosalina, how you can build a mini story in your head in some of the galaxies with how the mission progression goes, could also attribute the novelty of it all, there is just a lot that ticks just right about Galaxy beyond just being another excellent Mario game.
