I'm actually quite happy we got pretty much nothing from old/returning characters. In a way, we sort of got the solo Chief game, dealing with the loss of Cortana that Halo 5 always should have been. Throwing trusted characters in for him to mingle with or whatever woulda just taken away from that vibe.
