Just as I anticipated the PS5 to no longer have a Top 50 game, Resident Evil Village must have had a promotion at retailers to get rid of the original shipment. There is still likely 5-10K units that haven't been sold, but without an additional shipment or best price edition it's unlikely for Village to become the first 100K physical seller on the PS5.

Elsewhere Mario Party Superstars is likely to be one of the major titles this holiday, with a strong start like this it's heading for 1 million by the end of the year. Call of Duty franchise experienced a huge drop and won't make the Top 50 this year.

Top 10 Publishers:

  1. Nintendo - 6.414.025 (45%)
  2. Capcom - 2.814.712 (19.8%)
  3. Konami - 1.496.888 (10.5%)
  4. Pokemon Co - 632.312 (4.4%)
  5. Bandai Namco - 578.339 (4%)
  6. Microsoft - 557.873 (3.9%)
  7. Square Enix - 409.966 (2.9%)
  8. Marvelous - 409.108 (2.9%)
  9. Aniplex - 295.284 (2.1%)
  10. Neos - 183.733 (1.3%)

If Shin Megami Tensei V manages more than 183K next week Atlus will replace Neos in the chart, I personally predicted a 200K opening for SMT V which would be the biggest launch for the franchise. With the WoM being good for the game I can see it ending the year in the Top 20 with over 350K physical sales, with digital that would make it the best selling game in the franchise of all time in Japan. Early signs are good, now it's a question of what we observe on Amazon.co.jp, COMG, GEO and Tsutaya over the weekend.

With RE Village reappearing on the charts this week, I thought it might have moved up on your top 50.  However it is at 46 with no other PS5 titles there with it.  There only needs to be 5 more decent SKUs released this year to push it right out of the top 50, meaning PS5 will get nothing in the top 50 this year.

On top of this, Switch games have the top 19 spots (and Switch third party games have the top 2).  PS4 is exiting the software charts fast, and PS5 software is not selling well enough to finish in the top 50.  I don't see any other possibility than total Switch domination for the next several years in Japan.  And I am talking domination to the extent that this year won't seem nearly as one-sided as the years to come.
