I went the opposite route. Never played that kind of game, then played M+R and absolutely loved it for the combat, the charm, the visuals that blew me away, and the humor. Then I tried Xcom and found it to be depressing with way too much death and too gruesome of deaths, plus I found the dialogue cheezy.

The first XCOM is a bit rough, but XCOM 2 was really good.  I think the appeal, to me at least, was the futuristic stuff and the focus on analyzing and understanding the aliens.  I'm really into space and future stuff, so XCOM 2 hooked me there as well with the whole fighting aliens thing (I watched Independence Day maybe a dozen times hahaha!).  Of course, the actual combat is far deeper than M+R, and that was a bonus to me, too, since I could pull off some cool stuff not possible in M+R.  Again, though, it's not like I didn't like M+R lol

I only tried 2. In addition to those problems I said before, it occurs to me I couldn't even get far into the game because I was playing the Switch version which kept sputtering and being really slow. I was hoping I'd have a blast with it, though!
