I'm going out on a limb and saying that's because Kojima himself said Metal Gear will "always be around", if I remember correctly.

 

I realize that but why do fans and developers keep pushing for sequels on sequels on sequels on end? There are only very few comparable cases among movies like that, even those never reaching the number of sequels some game franchises spawn. Game publishers just haven't seemed to grasp the simple concept novelists and film makers have long understood; You need to let things DIE.
