Never. We already have an indirect successor in the Switch that sold well. The Wii U stopped all production when the Switch was announced, while the 3DS continued as normal. A lot of 3DS games stayed exclusive while all Wii U games got converted to Switch. |
WiiU games got ported because the platform tanked while 3DS didn't nothing to do with being a successor or not many games even with the attach ratio just didn't reach their sales potential on WiiU so they needed to claw what they spent on them back a prime example of this is Mario Kart, Switch is a direct successor to both platforms. 3DS was supported because they had to maximize profits while the Switch was still taking off and it was the active platform that didn't tank and it wouldn't require as much resources at that point as supporting WiiU at that point would mean dividing resources between two separate HD platforms at the same time something no platform holder can do especially as they can no longer support two platforms in the case of portable and home at the same time anymore.
