Certainly it would be possible to double sales, we can`t know for sure, as well as it could only sell 20% more, that is because tie ratio of individual SW is nowhere linear. Now when talking about total sw it is more or less stable, you would have something between 10 to 12 game sold per HW (at least before digital became a thing, so with much cheaper digital games that average is likely to change, like PS4 seems to have passed PS2 SW with much less HW sold). The main reason why the tie ratio for individual SW is nowhere near linear is because the more a HW sells the more diverse the userbase is and the more likely for SW sales to spread out.
