Sony's latest financial result did say that SCE will make over 1,7 billion dollar losses during fiscal year 2008 so it's more than likely that PS3 really any where close to make profit with PS3 HW sales (and that financial result includes profits of PS2 and PSP sales so real losses done by PS3 are much bigger).
XO price drop did over double its sales in Europe, so similar result in US would put it sales some where near 120000 consoles per week, which would be quite good result even it's not match with HUGE sales of Wii.
If MS presents new SKU in E3 it probably will include smaller GPU and maybe even smaller CPU, which would lower XO production cost even more so 50$ price drop wouldn't make MS lose money with XO HW sales and if they can keep attach rate close to 7 with XO games they will have nothing to worry on financial side.
