Pretty much the course with every pair of Pokemon games where the 2nd one is less popular than the first one.

Gold > Silver
Ruby > Sapphire
Diamond > Pearl
Black > White
X > Y
Sun > Moon
Sword > Shield

There's no real reason for it, that's just how it is.

It´s beyond gaming, for sure.
