I hear this argument a lot and let me explain: 

Normal, Vanilla porn is easy as hell to find. Kink-centric or fetish-oriented stuff is far harder to find. Therefore, if you find a model or performer that produces the kind of content you like, you find 'ah hell, 10 bucks a month ain't bad to see a steady stream of stuff I like'. 

It's like furry porn. I could just go to FA and enjoy the millions upon millions of images, some of which are right up my alley. but I still go to patreon to pay for a handful of artists because they make stuff that is harder to find or up my alley. Or, in some cases, I just outright commission exactly what I want. It's about interaction, about niche content. And sometimes it's literally just 'I want to support this artist becuase I like what they do and I want to ensure they keep doing it'. It's not just about you. Your own selfish need to get off is only one part of the equation. Some people have compassion and simply want to support the creators they like and want to see the people they like succeed.
