Don't expect Metroid to show any time. Even the Special edition didn't make as big of a fuss as it did in the west where it was huge, heck i think they're still available and if not then it did manage to stay there for several days and western were the ones to preorder the special edition for import. Metroid is nicher than niche in japan. It's one of the rarest big and major franchises of Nintendo to be THAT irrelevant in Japan (and that's where relies the issue that caused drought for the series) . And guess what, the prime series manages to be even less relevant there than the 2D one. You can count on the western audience to drive almost all the sales. But it won't be a big problem though. the game will still sell well despite being small in Nintendo's home land. |
Not every series will be popular everywhere. Nintendo needs series like these. I don't think the west particularly cares for Kirby that much, but Japan clearly goes absolutely nuts whenever one of those games comes out. Japan's population decline over the next few decades will make their gaming market all the smaller to tap into, so Nintendo, Sony, and SEGA all need to be prioritizing the rest of the world more than Japan if they don't want to shrink in revenue in the 2030's and 2040's. They are gaining relavance in South Korea and China, but those gamers have their own expectations of what games should look like.
