Brand power has nothing to do with it as they are both large gaming brands. Xbox has proven in the past that it can keep up with the PS brand, look no further than Gen 7. Midway through Gen 8 and all of Gen 9, its not the same appoach. The problem with these comparisons are the two very different strategies. Xbox isnt relying on console sales, its relying on multiplatform eco-system population where as Sony is heavily relying on console sales and dipping their toes into MS's strategy slowly. If we compare just console sales than thats a no brainer, that will always go to the brand giving less options of accessibility. |
Gen 7 was close because Sony fucked up badly with the PS3 and MS took good advantage of their missteps. There's no cracks in Playstation's armour for Xbox to get its hooks into now.
Unless I'm missing something, console sales is what we're talking about here, not multiplatform ecosystems, so the former is all that matters.
