I'll echo Kakadu's take on Skyward Sword having one of the best combat system in the Zelda series and it's mostly due to the motion controls.

I really love the IDEA of Skyward Sword's motion controls, but despite putting 20+ hours into the game I could never get them to work. I even like the idea of a Linear zelda and a more story driven Zelda, but the motion controls ruined everything for me. And Fi, but I can get over Fi.

That might be a contradiction in just about everything about skyward Sword. I genuinely hate the game despite loving all the ideas they put into it. Linear Zelda? Story-based? carefully planned individual combat encounters? More personality and character and chemistry? I love all of those things in theory, I just personally felt that it didn't work, and 90% of that was the fact that I could never get the motion controls to work. I'm quite confident that the Switch verson will fix all/most of those issues once I'm able to reapproach the game with a fresh perspective.

What exactly was the issue with the motion controls? I'm curious, because I never had any issues. Why didn't it work?
