For me, the N64/PS1 generation is definitely retro at this point. You would probably have a pretty good argument for the PS2/GC/Xbox generation as well. I just have a hard time personally accepting that. I guess I am getting old. 
Also, there is a pretty fair argument for everything not currently on sale brand new to be retro as well. I bought a Wii Remote with Motion Plus built in for my Wii U just a few months ago. I wanted to make sure I got an authentic Nintendo version. It was a little surprising just how difficult they are to find. Ebay was pretty much the only place I could find them.
