There hasn't been a new DK game in 7 years. I obviously don't count the 3DS port of Returns and the Switch port of Tropical Freeze. Those are releases, but not new games. I think this year or next is ripe for another DK game. A 2D platformer could be a good idea to finish a second Donkey Kong Country trilogy. But a 3D game would make more sense, as Retro has other obligations (as the rumor mentions. But then again, they're busy with Metroid Prime 4. But what were they working on for over 4 years?
Donkey Kong 64 isn't considered too great of a game, so maybe EPD could make a nearly universally loved 3D DK game. It would also be wise to make the game more accessible to players. DK games are pretty noteworthy for their difficulty. |
it's not difficult per se, but des necessary complexity. Easy to learn, hard to master, likewise good 2d platforms is more accessible than a 3d navigation, but the mastering mode have the same complexity than 3d games.
