Variant spread in the US up to mid April. It looks like the SA variant (B.1351) isn't as transmissible as the British variant (B.117), while the Brazilian variant (P.1) is more transmissible than both. As for the native US ones, the New York variant was matching or being just slightly outcompeted by the British one, while the Californian one is outcompeted by the three VoCs everywhere. Phew! That enough variants for you?
As a side note, that could potentially put South Africa in the awkward situation of having rejected a vaccine that works to great effect in the variant (B.117) that can potentially become the majority of cases there in a few months at most. On the flip side, that suggests that the VoCs serologically compete with one another and should respond to vaccination / natural infection as expected.
