Exactly. The key word here is value. We tend to forget that for a lot of people a 60 and now 70 dollar/euro whatever game is a lot in the face of popular ftp games, abundance of steam sales etc. I also tend to think of it as what a rental service used to do. It is a cheaper option for people that don't really care about ownership that much. And another plus is that a consumer might like the game and purchase it later.

That argument gets brought up a lot, yet what percentage of gamers actually do that, that weren't going to buy that game anyway, and now at a discount price after playing it on GP first.

The most prevalent argument is how much money GP saves everyone. If GP doesn't lead to a huge increase in player base, revenue for the gaming industry overall will be down. Revenue per title will be down, budgets will shrink. A further move to blockbusters and cheap indie titles with nothing much in between.

On the plus side, more exposure to different games, so maybe some people will get off the yearly franchise train and go for something different.

Unless MS is straight up lying to absolutely everyone, every time they talk about their statistics of GP users, we know this isn't true. GP can absolutely save you money...but it can also lead to you spending more money, because you're engaging with more content than you were before, and if you're enjoying that content, you may feel compelled to buy DLC, microtransactions, or just buy some game outright because you loved it so much.
