Yeah, also wasn't a fan of the two-screen-concept.
Most developers didn't know what to do with the second screen.
On DS most developers focused on the lower screen and its touch/stylus input, the upper screen was often "wasted" for ambience stuff.
On 3DS that shifted: most of the action of the games was shown on the bigger upper screen and the lower screen was reduced to a fancy touchpad.
Only a few developers managed a good balance between both screens.
And then came the Wii U with some games that constantly nagged with texts like "now look at the TV" -> "now look at the controller display" -> "now look at the TV"...
