All the Switch needs to do is to keep pace with the DS at this point which it is doing.  DS's legs drop quickly at a certain point.  All Switch needs to do is keep its legs decent and it will outsell the DS in the long run.

Also, I've gotta say that I've read both the first and third paragraph and I'm not sure what they are saying exactly.  They seem like they are saying the same thing, but they have different numbers.  (Different # of months and different total for the DS.)

2008 was DS's biggest holiday, to keep pace with DS Switch will need to sell 29 million this year, it's do-able but I'm still expecting it to fall short of DS overall (140m range)

I think the month number on the first paragraph is a typo, it's meant to be 46 not 55, while the 3rd paragraph is another typo, it's meant to say "DS sold 78.16" but he swapped the 8 & 6.

You are neglecting what has already happened.  Gap change for the past 12 months is 152,728 - DS.  That is statistically insignificant when systems are selling 28m+ a year.  Even if Switch falls a few million behind in the next 12 months, then it is not too big of a deal, because Switch has already been keeping up this long.  DS legs fall apart pretty quickly after this next big year.  Switch just needs better legs (which is pretty easy) and it will outsell the DS in the long run.  Switch sales have already done most of the hard work.
