Three weeks into the new year, it's finally here! I'm gonna be honest with you guys, I didn't start compiling everyone's lists until well into January, which is a new personal record here, but the fact that I'm posting this on the same day as last year means I still managed to avoid breaking another unwanted record. Just means I overworked myself to death for a couple weeks, but I mean, I can only blame myself for that. 
Somewhere within those two weeks I also made a serious effort to develop a new formula for ranking these games, as I wanted to find a format that would focus more on the community's most favorite games rather than the most popular. However, I could not come up with something good enough, so this year is still following the same ranking system as always, albeit with some minor tweaks.
It's been a long-standing tradition now at VGC that we spend the last two months of a year sharing and talking about our 50 favorite games ever − as always, I must leave my shout-outs to @Smeags for creating and @Leadified for continuing it. It's a really special celebration, and while the individual lists are the most fun, it's also fun to have everyone's results combined together in a mega-list.
This year, I've received 74 lists, containing within them a total of 1173 games! As usual, these will all be posted here, which makes this the longest list to date − another record we seem to break on a yearly basis. 
The "votes" column indicates how many people had a game on their lists, and the release year listed is always the one from the game's earliest release − except for arcade games, which will have their earliest console release listed instead if it's arguably more or as relevant as their arcade counterpart. At the end of the list, there are also platform and decade breakdowns, as well as the top ranking game from each year.
