The thing is I can catch every Poke'mon I want without having to grind. I just play naturally and get every one that I want. In a game like League of Legends, if I wanted to collect every champion that I thought was fun, I'd have to play for hundreds upon hundreds of hours. The question is, is Gears 5 like Poke'mon, or is it like League of Legends? How long would it take to get 25% of all character skins? How long will it take three years from now when there are even more skins? Serious question BTW. Not hypothetical. Please answer.

@The Thread In General...

I think a lot of companies that try to strong arm their way into the game industry will do whatever it takes to maximize profit. If that means weaponizing FOMO, adding MTX, and actively trying to punish you for leaving to play another game, then they will do it. "If you leave to play another game, then you'll miss out on the battle pass, and this new LIMITED TIME ONLY SKIN!!!! BUY NOW!" They'll employ more skinner box techniques to keep you hooked on a game you don't really enjoy. A game can be compelling, but not fun. If you ever find yourself cursing at an online multiplayer game guess what? You've been played. The company has you mentally conditioned to play the game at that point. You aren't having fun anymore. You are there to entice your friends to play, and keep the playercount up, which keeps the game alive. You are the product.

Can you though?

Even if you ignore the latest games which are missing a bunch of Pokemon, GameFreak have a habit of making catching them all a pain in the butt. Whether it's limited time download only Pokemon, a chunk being exclusive to a certain version, or even just exceedingly rare Pokemon (IIRC Feebas was only catchable on 3 randomly selected water tiles in the whole game for Ruby/Sapphire and if trying to fish in every tile until you find the right one isn't grindy... then what is?) you absolutely are going to need to go out of your way and put in extra effort for a lot of them.

Granted, you did say only those you wanted, rather than all of them. But if you're doing it that way you could say the same about literally any F2P game. I'm sure there are plenty of people that can play those games casually and still get all of the stuff they want, just like a casual Pokemon player could catch any they want. But neither of those people are going to be able to get them all so if they want them all... the Pokemon player is just as shit out of luck as the F2P player.

Nah, I've completed a Poke'dex before. It takes maybe 200 hours. I've played over two thousand hours of League and still don't even have 1/3rd of the champions.
