Of all the possible moments to upgrade my PC, I must have picked the worst one.

At the beginning of last year I planned to do a partial upgrade by the end of it focusing "only" on the CPU side (which of course also meant a new mobo, RAM... and probably storage as well). But then I had an unexpected expense and had to put the plan on hold for this year.

Now, given how hard it is to find the hardware and how expensive it has gotten, I'm thinking of just waiting a bit more and see how AMD's Zen4 and Intel's whatever-Lake perform and cost. Who knows, maybe by then the Ryzen 5 and i5 series of processors will come with the 8 cores I'm aiming for.

Yeah, my hope is that the supply slowly gets better (supply for the 3070 is slwly starting to improve already) and thus the GPU prices come down again. On the CPU side, the supply is already more or less normal for the Ryzen 5000 chips, and I hope that Rocket Lake will be competitive enough to push down the price of the 5800X and 5600X a bit further.

I won't be able to afford a new PC before Eastern, so I have some time to wait anyway...
