Zelda could be done pretty well in a steampunk environment now that I think about it. Imagine like... kinda like FF6, or even Back to the Future 3 but without guns.
Now I just got a visual of Link riding on horseback, fighting a time traveling Phantom Train. Hahaha.
I mean, Twilight Princess had a gigantic space cannon. I think the next Hyrule could have a giant map with a train and a steamboat. It could also make for some badass town and costume design, and not even change the gameplay.
Another thing I think would be nice would be a good evil swamp instead of an evil forest, and maybe some beach instead of desert.
(Link's Awakening had no triforce, no Zelda, no Ganon, and that was in 1993. They can definitely stray from the main legend again.)
