I can't remember who it was, but somebody once said "patriotism is the belief that your country is the best because you were born in it" or something akin to that. Based on that you could argue it's the opposite. Their extreme arrogance and feeling of self importance is why they're a nationalist. It's nothing to do with their accomplishments, rather they think that their mere existence is the greatest accomplishment their country has ever achieved.

Then it's weird that they only ever cite achievements from people that came long before them.



If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
