You can just look at the Software figures since the launch of the PS4 and notice the trend, PSV might not have been successful but it sold close around 50 million software the majority of which was 3rd Party, this year the physical sales within the Famitsu Top 100 will be another sharp decline for the PS ecosystem and next year sales will decline further. Despite 2018 being the PS4 peak due to MHW it's still performed worse than 2017 which was the last year PSV got meaningful support.

  1. PS4/PSV/PS3 2016 - 11.932.290
  2. PS4/PSV/PS3 2014 - 11.199.346
  3. PS4/PSV/PS3 2015 - 10.382.176
  4. PS4/PSV 2017 - 9.462.066
  5. PS4/PSV 2018 - 9.228.298
  6. PS4 2019 - 7.181.200

Overall once it became clear that the audience of the PSV was transitioning to the Switch rather than to the PS4, it's basically ensured that a lot of 3rd Parties that were successful because they were able to have cross-platform games in the PS Ecosystem, will no longer be able to stop the decline of their franchises without prioritizing the Switch.

Top 5 Publishers

  1. Bandai Namco - 2.337.375
  2. Microsoft - 1.095.680
  3. Square Enix - 1.041.632
  4. Sega - 540.936
  5. Koei Tecmo - 398.420
Bandai Namco best encapsulate this as they were the Top 3rd Party on the PSV and continue to create timed-exclusives for the PlayStation ecosystem and haven't fully embraced the Switch as a PSV replacement.
  • Software 2020: 1.076.306
  • Software 2019: 2.038.805
  • Software 2018: 1.746.644
  • Software 2017: 1.499.088
  • Software 2016: 2.595.019
  • Software 2015: 3.681.522
  • Software 2014: 3.782.678

Their sales this year will be at their lowest since the PlayStation launch, because they continue to create exclusives which lead to franchise decline. Their late ports on the Switch are not a winning strategy - this is clearly demonstrated by any 3rd Party that manages to launch their game on both the PlayStation and Switch at the same time. It's especially puzzling with DBZ which is a franchise which always sold best on Nintendo hardware.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost On (PS4) - 161.014
  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (PS4) - 149.654
  • Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris (PS4) - 85.010
Tales of Ariseis launching on the PS4/X1 next year and PS5 version hasn't been revealed. The game's development costs aren't small for a Publisher of Bandai's size but with the decline of Sony I struggle to think what the assumption is. Counting on Western sales to save the game when they haven't even reveled a next gen version is not exactly a sure thing. Especially with the rest of Asia trending towards the Switch.
  • Tales of Zestiria (PS3) - 369.162
  • Tales of Berseria (PS4/PS3) - 330.275
