Turkey (TurkishTürkiye [ˈtyɾcije]), officially the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti [ˈtyɾcije dÊ’umˈhuːɾijeti] (listen)), is a transcontinental country located mainly on the Anatolian Peninsula in Western Asia, with a smaller portion on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe.

Russia is transcontinental as well with more of it in Asia but still grouped with Europe, Turkey is grouped with Europe hence why they're part of the EUCU and EEC.

But unlike Turkey, Russia has both the vast majority of their inhabitants and their capital in Europe. For Turkey, only 4% live on the European part and the capital Ankara is in Asia. This is why Russia is generally considered European but Turkey isn't.
