That was to be expected. Open Critic lumps reviews for all platforms together instead of keeping track of separate meta's for each platform. Since the console versions are a mess on base last gen hardware, it was to be expected that Open Critic score would drop as console reviews start to come in. The fact that the PC score has stayed at 90 on metacritic is a good sign, gives us a good baseline of the level of quality to expect on the console versions after optimization. If the game gets rereviewed on PS5 and Xbox Series once the free next gen optimizations hit next year, it's a safe bet they will review over 90, because they'll not only have much better graphics, but months worth of bug fixes and free DLC by that point.
They're right though, CD Projekt does have a good track record of fixes and updates. Witcher 1 and 2 both got definitive edition rereleases with many improvements. Witcher 3 released in a pretty buggy state, and also had performance issues, but was patched and improved alot in the months after release. CD Projekt also gave Witcher 3 a wave of free DLC updates, which included alternate outfits, new questlines, and more, and they are doing the same for Cyberpunk. They are also working on a multiplayer Cyberpunk game that will be free for all purchasers of Cyberpunk 2077. |
That's not the point I was trying to make. The point was reviewers shouldn't be giving perfect scores to games they admit are not perfect with the hopes of the developer fixing them down the line. A game should be reviewed and scored on the state it is in upon release - not on future promises. It sets a very sad precedent for other future games to release in a broken state.
