It appears to be the same with AMD cards, one major Scandinavian retailer announced today that they expected AMD card stock to be replenished and readily available "within the first half of 2021". Good times for all.

"Information on Radeon RX 6800 and 6800XT
Today sees the release of 3rd party models of AMD's new graphics-cards series; Radeon RX 6800 and 6800XT.
Unfortunately, the stock is turning out to be extremely low and we've only received a handful of cards from the manufacturers. As it appears right now, the manufacturing pace of ASUS, MSI, Sapphire and all other 3rd parties is very low and the wait is expected to be long. This is why we won't be accepting pre-orders from 15:00, but will only be showing the cards and offer an option for you to receive a message as soon as we open up for purchase. You'll be able to get in a queue but should prepare for a long wait and for the cards to be in stock within the first half of next year.
But you can rest assured that we're doing everything we can to get our hands on as many cards as possible and we'll deliver them as soon as we can. We ask that you all have patience regarding the deliveries of these cards."
So the biggest retailer in computer hardware in the Nordic region, and the biggest overall online retailer is basically saying that there's nothing to be bought for a long time. That's some shit right there.
PS: The company is called Komplett. All other, major retailers simply have "tell me when it's in stock" as options on both AMD and Nvidia cards (as well as PS5). This holiday season might see one of the biggest missed opportunity scenarios in gaming hardware in decades.
