For the sequels he IS the God of War so those makes sense even if he is banished and falls out f favor with the rest of the Gods. He has declared war on the gods. Actually he isn't the God of war in most of part 2 when he tries to travel back in time. Also once he drops to the underworld in God of War 3 he needs to drain Hades soul to use the hyperion gate. So for 95% of the game he isn't the God of war in GOW 3 either. After he drained Hades is soul he is a god though. But I doubt he is actually the God of war, more like the God of resurection.
