The original sold only 250k in Japan on the PS2. Not too bad, but nothing exceptional either. So there wasn't much more of a market for it than what it sold early on.

What's more, it's an RPG and a remake which are generally very frontloaded in the preorders; and the remake's sales are split between 2 platforms with 2 versions each, which makes movements look much more slow when they happen. It did move, but due to being split between the versions it didn't look like it did.
