What exactly are our expectations?

In general I've seen people on Twitter and on VGChartz telling us to just be patient. That they understand Switch's 2020 could've been a little better in terms of software and transparency from Nintendo.

All I'm saying is don't expect Super Mario Odyssey 2, Mario Kart 9, Breath of the Wild 2, a new IP, and Pokemon Gen IV remakes all in the same year. We'll be lucky to get 2-3 of those, not all 5.

People who are expecting Mario Kart 9 are already delusional, so not worth making a whole thread about, they aren't even that common.

Same can be said for Metroid Prime 4, though a 2D Metroid is possible.

People expecting a new IP are almost always talking about from smaller or more niche-oriented Nintendo teams, like Monolith Soft or the divisions of EPD that work on more quirky games. I don't think anyone is talking about, the next Splatoon, the next Animal Crossing, maybe it will end up selling as well as Arms but it probably wouldn't even be from that division.

Frankly I don't see what's so ridiculous about Pokemon, Zelda and Mario though. By this time next year Breath of the Wild 2 would be long overdue, the one 3D Mario sequel we have to work with came out in a fairly timely manner (or 2 if we are including 3D World as a sequel), and while Nintendo probably does schedule releases around Pokemon to some extent (I think the Animal Crossing delay probably had a lot to do with an already comfortable Holiday 2019 with Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword and Shield), it's not an EPD game or from a studio they own, I don't think they're going to push back the release date just to accommodate their own games, and though the vice versa is a bit more likely it still isn't necessary. Pokemon would also be a remake, so.

Bayonetta 3 is also a pretty small game and at that point it's just third parties meeting contractual obligations, Nintendo probably doesn't has a decent amount of input in it but not so much so that it would push back the release year after the game already taking this long, if those devs finish in 2021 the game will probably be released in 2021.
