4000+ games backwards compatible Day 1. PSN library carries over to PS5

I'm sure it's POSSIBLE to emulate further, but PS3 has remarkably complicated architecture so I totally get it. This is why you don't try to do proprietary shit (they definitely learned this with the vita). And by now PS1/2 stuff is just too old. I figure going forward PS4 onward should be included, if console manufacturers are going the way of the PC. 

Playstation 3 emulation is actually further along, better performing and with better compatibility than the Xbox 360 emulators on PC.
The Cell isn't holding anything back there.
The Cell is a relatively simple CPU compared to the large mult-core, SIMD-rich CPU designs of today... When it first came out and Dual-Cores were all the rage, then sure, it looked complicated, but we have moved on from 2006.

To be fair, Microsoft isn't offering its "entire" company legacy as bc either.

Only 41 out of the 1001 original Xbox games are available for instance. And if I remember correctly, about 25% of the 360 library is available. Would be awesome if 25% of the PS3 library supported bc but it'd still be far from the entire legacy.

You'll always have games in your collection that aren't supported.

The fact that backwards compatibility isn't comprehensive is a massive downer on Xbox's efforts, this was always going to happen with a curated approach though, the logistical efforts required to do the complete ecosystem is massive.

But the benefits to it are improved visuals and performance as every game is thoroughly tested and that can be super important to some people.
